The gateway to Erg Chebbi, a sea of orange dunes up to 150 m high on the edge of the Sahara. Camel rides at sunset, nights in desert camps, quad bikes and some of the darkest night skies in Morocco.

Things to do

  • Camel ride to a desert camp at sunset
  • Sunrise from the top of a big dune
  • Quad bike or buggy ride in the dunes
  • Visit Khamlia village and its Gnawa music
  • Stargazing on a moonless night

Good to know

  • June to August is very hot (often over 40 °C): ride early or late in the day.
  • Bring a scarf for sun and wind; camps can tie it Tuareg style.
  • Nights in winter can drop close to 0 °C: pack a warm layer.
